Work Safely at Heights overview

This course is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to identify, assess, and control risks associated with working at heights, as well as to safely perform tasks at elevated locations.

  • Legislative Requirements and Standards:
    • Overview of relevant legislation, regulations, and codes of practice
    • Duty of care responsibilities for employers and employees
    • Industry standards and best practices
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment:
    • Common hazards associated with working at heights
    • Risk assessment processes and hierarchy of controls
    • Methods for controlling risks and implementing control measures
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
    • Selection and fitting of appropriate PPE for working at heights
    • Inspection, maintenance, and care of PPE
    • Fall arrest systems, harnesses, and other safety equipment
  • Access Equipment and Systems:
    • Types of access equipment used
    • Safe use and operation of ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms
    • Inspection and maintenance requirements for access equipment
  • Safe Work Practices and Procedures:
    • Planning and organizing work at heights
    • Communication and coordination with team members
    • Emergency procedures and rescue techniques
  • Practical Exercises and Assessment:
    • Hands-on training in the use of access equipment and PPE

This course is suitable for workers in industries where permits are required for tasks such as confined space entry, hot work, or working at heights.

This course consists of a comprehensive 1-day (8 hours) face-to-face training session, including breaks and assessments, along with approximately 6 hours of self-paced pre-learning to be completed in advance.

This training is nationally recognised and forms part of our approved scope of registration (RTO 21647). This course includes the following units of competency:

There are no formal pre-requisites for this course, but basic literacy and numeracy skills are required.

Participants should possess basic language, literacy, and numeracy skills to ensure they can comprehend training materials and instructions effectively.

Assessment may include written assessments, practical demonstrations, and observations of participant performance during practical exercises.

On successful completion, a Statement of Attainment containing the following units of competency will be awarded to students who have been deemed competent in the training & assessment.

  • Long pants and work boots suitable for practical activities
  • Laptop or tablet is recommended for digital assessments (mobile phones may be used too)
  • Photo Identification
