This course is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to identify, assess, and control risks associated with working at heights, as well as to safely perform tasks at elevated locations.

  • Legislative Requirements and Standards:
    • Overview of relevant legislation, regulations, and codes of practice.
    • Duty of care responsibilities for employers and employees.
    • Industry standards and best practices for working at heights.
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment:
    • Common hazards associated with working at heights.
    • Risk assessment processes and hierarchy of controls.
    • Methods for controlling risks and implementing control measures.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
    • Selection and fitting of appropriate PPE for working at heights.
    • Inspection, maintenance, and care of PPE.
    • Fall arrest systems, harnesses, and other safety equipment.
  • Access Equipment and Systems:
    • Types of access equipment used for working at heights.
    • Safe use and operation of ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms.

There are no formal pre-requisites for this course, but basic literacy and numeracy skills are required.

Participants should possess basic language, literacy, and numeracy skills to ensure they can comprehend training materials and instructions effectively.

Assessment for this course may include written assessments, practical demonstrations, and observations of participant performance during practical exercises.

Upon successful completion of the course and assessment requirements, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit of competency RIIWHS204E – Work Safely at Heights.
